![]() The Levine Hillel Center The University of Illinois, Chicago, IL I was honored to be asked to create a portable Aron HaKodesh and Silk Parochet for the Hillel Center at the University of Illinois in Chicago. After many emails back and forth and conference calls among the parties involved in the project, we all agreed the drawing below best represented the style of cabinet to be built.
And here are photos of the beautiful Aron built from solid maple hardwoods. The cabinet is 30" wide x 24" deep x 60" high with double doors. When placed on top of the companion table, the two pieces stand nearly 8' tall.
These are the 8" long twisted bronze handles that were custom ordered.
And on to the parochet: The design below is Hillel's new logo designed by Harvey Marks.
It was professionally digitized into a embroidery file in order to be stitched onto silk fabric that would become the parochet for inside the cabinet. The word "shalom" was added to one side of the flame.
